J DE SOUZA LODGES APPEAL AGAINST 1 YEAR SUSPENSION

The Horse Racing Division has been informed this Wednesday, 16th November by the Appeal Committee of the Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) that jockey J De Souza has lodged an appeal against his 1 year suspension on Transonic (Meeting 32 - Race 4).

INQUIRY
Following an inquiry in regards to his ride on Transonic (Meeting 32 - Race 4), jockey José De Souza has been charged under rule 207 (a) and was found guilty by the Racing Stipes this Tuesday 15 November though the latter pleaded not guilty. He has been severely sanctionned from riding in races for 1 year.
Rule 207 (a) stipulates that when riding in a race, a jockey shall : ‘’allow his horse to run on its merits. Where a jockey contravenes this provision, the jockey shall commit an offence and shall be liable to a suspension or disqualification not exceeding 5 years and to a fine of not less than 50,000 rupees and not exceeding 1 million Mauritian rupees.’’
