BON VIVEUR (S Rama) was slow to begin and was steadied on a couple of occasions between 1200m and 1000m. 3. TRIPOD (N Teeha) leaned-in in the straight. 4. Jockey B Fayd’herbe (RAIN MUST FALL) reported that his mount ran flat in the later half of the race. 5. After the race, Jockey S Rama (BOB VIVEUR) reported that his mount was not striding out. Jockey D Bheekary (COPENHAGEN) was questioned with regard to his riding in the race with reference to choosing to lead in the initial stages of the race with a substantial margin whilst he was instructed to be in third or fourth position. The Jockey stated that he was drawn on the outer most draw and the horse was keen initially. In his opinion he did not want to restrain his mount and allowed it to run on. Rescheduled time: NIL Starting time: 14hr51.45 Stewards’ Reports 1. Jockeys J Da Silva (ABSOLUTIST) and S Rama (SHAH AKBAR), who replaced Jockey J De Souza, carried 1.0 kg overweight each. 2. The Clerk of the Scales reported that Jockey J De Souza (SHAH AKBAR) was weighing out 2.0 kg over the published weight. This overweight was not permitted and Trainer Gujadhur was asked to substitute the Jockey and consequently, Jockey S Rama replaced Jockey J De Souza. 3. Trainer Gujadhur and S Mahadia were interviewed with regard to the above matter. Trainer S Mahadia, who had allowed Jockey J De Souza to ride for Trainer S Gujadhur, commented that he had ascertained from the Jockey with regard to the weight and he had expected the Jockey to carry an overweight of 1.0 kg but due to the prevailing cooler weather, the Jockey was not able to reduce his weight. Mr. Gujadhur stated that he had requested for 1.0 kg overweight for Jockey J De Souza at the Declaration Stage and further corroborated the comments of Mr. Mahadia as much as it related. 4. Subsequently, after having questioned Jockey J De Souza along with Trainer S Mahadia, the Jockey signed an admission of guilt and a penalty of Rs.2,500/- was imposed on him with regard to the breach of Rule 160 of the Rules of Racing in that the Jockey was declared to ride in this race, having accepted the ride whilst he was overweight. 5. An objection was lodged by Trainer A Sewdyal and Jockey J Da Silva, the Trainer and Jockey for ABSOLUTIST, (Placed 2nd) against THE GATEKEEPER (Winner) on the grounds that at the 1200m, NOURBESE (R Joorawon) had to check and dropped back while THE GATEKEEPER (C Maujean) shifted in and therefore, ABSOLUTIST (J Da Silva) who was following NOURBESE had to check and travel wide. And again, in the final 200m, THE GATEKEEPER (C Maujean) shifted out, inconveniencing his horse, ABSOLUTIST, whereby his Jockey could not ride out. 7. The Stewards, after considering the submissions made by the connections of ABSOLUTIST and THE GATEKEEPER and relying on their own observation of the race, decided to overrule the objection and maintain the placings as declared by the Judge. 8. ABSOLUTIST (J Da Silva) lugged-in in the straight. 9. NOURBESE (R Joorawon) jumped over the crossing near 600m. 10. Shortly thereafter, JAYS DANCER (J De Souza) was tightened while racing on the inside of GRAND VISION (S Bussunt) due to lack of room. 3. Near 1200 metres, GRAND VISION (S Bussant) was tightened and lost its position as BRABANZIO (A L Da Silva) was tightened for room while racing on the inside of ALAMEERY (A Andrews) who had HAKEEM (J Da Silva) on its outside. The Stewards will be enquiring into the matter. 4. Jockey S Bussant (GRAND VISION) was observed to have exhibited excessive celebratory gesture before passing the Winning Post. Subsequently, Jockey S Bussunt was interviewed in this regard and he was apologetic for his gesture. 5. Jockey S Bussunt signed an admission of guilt and a penalty of Rs.5,000 was imposed on him with regard to breach of Rule 208 (k) of the Rules of Racing in that he had celebratory gesture in an excessive manner on GRAND VISION he was riding before passing the Winning Post.
