Stewards’ Reports 1. BONJOUR BABY (I Taka) and STREET BYTE (MP De Oliveira) were restless in the stalls. 2. At the start, ITALIAN WAY (B Sooful) jumped awkwardly outwards and caused a chain reaction in which BONJOUR BABY (I Taka), STREET BYTE (M P De Oliveira) and THE RIGHT STUFF (S Rama) shifted out. In this incident, STREET BYTE made contact with CELESTIAL MAGMA (J De Souza), was squeezed out and then STREET BYTE was steadied off the heels of CELESTIAL MAGMA (J De Souza). 3. CELESTIAL MAGMA (J De Souza) hung in, in the straight. 4. Jockey D Schwarz (SACRED NIGHT) was questioned with regards to him becoming unbalanced in the straight, particularly in the concluding stages of the race and it seemed that the Jockey could not assist his horse properly. Jockey D Schwarz explained that his horse was leaning in and whilst trying to keep his horse run straight. However, whilst endeavoring to get SACRED NIGHT to the finish, he unbalanced himself. The Board noted the explanations of Jockey D Schwarz and advised him that his riding will continue to be monitored. 5. Jockey J De Souza (CELESTIAL MAGMA) was observed to have used his whip in consecutive strides in the running prior to the 100m. He was found in contravention of Rule 147(6)(a)(i), in that, he admitted to have struck the horse, CELESTIAL MAGMA, more than once on consecutive strides in the running and signed an admission of guilt. Consequently, a penalty of Rs 3000 was imposed on him.

NOBLE TRIP (A L Da Silva) was slow by a length and CAPTAIN FALCON (S Bussunt) was further slow. 3. Approaching the 800m, HONOKALANI (L Goomany) scraped the rails. 4. CAPTAIN FALCON (S Bussunt) raced keen near the 500m was steadied while going over the crossing at the 450m. 5. Near the 300m, CHARLIE SQUADRON (A Andrews) gave ground while racing on the heels of YOHO MIST (J Da Silva) due to which HONOKALANI (L Goomany), that was following, had to be steadied, switched out, carrying DUNZIE (MP De Oliveira) outwards. 6. In the concluding stages of the race, HONOKALANI (L Goomany) shifted out and took the running of MAGNUM P I (N Teeha). 7. Jockey N Teeha (MAGNUM P I) has been advised not to extend his arm out while riding.

Jockey C Maujean (SYDS LIASON) reported that his horse was finding it difficult to keep up with the pace and he had to ask for an effort every now and then throughout the race. The horse was referred to the Veterinary Surgeon. 3. CHOSEN WAY (S Bussunt) was hanging in, in the last 100m of the race. Trainer Gujadhur has been advised to rectify the trait of this horse. 4. STAR OF ZEUS (A Andrews) did not have a clear run in the concluding stages while racing between DROP KICK (D Schwarz) and CHOSEN WAY S Bussunt) when both the horses shifted ground, though the incident did not have any material effect on the result of the race.

The Clerk of Scales reported that Jockey A L Da Silva (HENRY TUDOR) was weighing out at 56kg which was 2.0kg over the carded weight, however, he was permitted to carry only 1.0kg overweight. In view of this, a change of Jockey was permitted and Jockey R Joorawon replaced Jockey A L Da Silva. 2. Subsequently, Trainer S Hurchund, Jockey A L Da Silva, along with his translator, were questioned in this regard. Evidence was taken from Trainer C Daby also. The Jockey was found guilty of contravening Rule 160 of the Rules of Racing, in that, he had accepted a ride whilst he was overweight. As a consequence, a fine of Rs 2500 was imposed on him and he was advised of his right to appeal. 3. ZIVA LA WINTER (B Sooful) proved difficult to load into the gates. This horse has been suspended for 7 days, after which it will be required to pass a Barrier Trial to the satisfaction pf the Stewards. 4. The Medical Officer attended to Jockey A Andrews after the race and declared him unfit to ride and accordingly, Jockey A Andrews was replaced for his remaining engagement.
