JACALAC (B Fayd’herbe) brushed the gates. 2. When afforded an opportunity, Jockey J Allyhosain (PROFICIENT) advised that his instructions were to “lead” if possible, otherwise be in second position. The Jockey further advised that the horse did not take a good start and was then covered by the other horses, therefore, he could not position his horse as instructed. He added that the pace was slow in the early stages and near 1200m, dipped out and carried AFRICAN ROCK (B Jacobson) outwards and his horse ran keen and then in the straight, the horse hung in. The horse was referred to the Veterinary Surgeon. 3. Jockey G D Aucharuz was found in contravention of Rule 147(6)(a)(i), in that, prior to the 100m, he struck the horse, GONTRAVELIN, with his whip more than once on consecutive strides in the running. Consequently, a penalty of a fine of MUR 4500 has been imposed on him. The Jockey has been reminded of his right to appeal. 4. After the race, Jockey B Fayd'herbe (JACALAC) who had hit his leg on the gate while jumping out, was examined by the Medical Doctor who certified the Jockey unfit to ride in the remaining races of the day.
