General 1. The bridle of CRUSHING FORCE (K.Roussety) broke in the saddling enclosure and had to be replaced. This caused a delay to the horses leaving the paddock.
Starting Reports 1. No report.
Stewards Reports 1. CRUSHING FORCE (K.Roussety) jumped awkwardly and lost one length. As a consequence of this incident, Apprentice K.Roussety was unable to ride to his instructions, which were to jump and lead. Thereafter, at the 200m, CRUSHING FORCE (K.Roussety) switched in to continue its run. 2. AFRICAN ROCK (N.Batchameah) raced wide throughout. Apprentice N.Batchameah (AFRICAN ROCK) appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his decision to race wide in the running. His attention was specifically drawn to the distances between the 900m and the 700m when it appeared that there was an opportunity for him to race with cover behind AFTER THE ORDER (A.Roy), which was aligned with the pattern of racing for AFRICAN ROCK. In this regard, he explained that AFRICAN ROCK is a big horse and after jumping well, he rode the horse according to his instructions, which were to obtain a position where the horse was comfortable and allow this gelding to stride freely. Consequently, after obtaining a forward albeit wide position, he elected not to risk breaking AFRICAN ROCK’s momentum by restraining to take cover particularly as this was a 990m race. The Board noted the explanations of Apprentice N.Batchameah, however, he was reminded of his obligations not to cover additional ground in races. Trainer P. Nagadoo appeared before the Board and confirmed the statements of Apprentice N. Batchameah in so far as they related to him.
3. SERGEANT YORK (I.Taka) raced awkwardly between the 950m and the 800m. This resulted in this gelding racing wide into the first turn. Thereafter, in the concluding stages, AFTER THE ORDER (A.Roy) was carried out on two occasions by SERGEANT YORK, which shifted out away from whip on several occasions from the 250m. Apprentice I.Taka (SERGEANT YORK) appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his riding in the early stages of this race and in particular the length of his reins and movement into the first turn. In this regard, Apprentice I.Taka explained that leaving the 900m, his lead bag had slipped forward and as he approached the first turn, his whip had become entangled with his breast plate on the right-hand side. This resulted in him having to remove his hand from his right-side rein in order to untangle his whip and consequently, SERGEANT YORK racing wider than he would have preferred. He further explained that his issue of racing wide was compounded by SERGEANT YORK showing a tendency to hang out in the running. The Board noted the explanations of Apprentice I.Taka which were corroborated by the patrol films of the race. However, he was advised to take more care when shifting ground in his races and reminded of his obligations to report all circumstances which may have affected his horse’s performance in the running. 4. RED ROCK CANYON (S.Donohoe) brushed the rails at the 900m.
