Between the 1200m and the 1000m, CRACKON (S. Donohoe) had to ease on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind DUKE OF ABERCORN (M. Sonaram), which eased the pace sharply on two occasions whilst looking for cover. Apprentice M. Sonaram appeared before the Board and was questioned regarding his riding of DUKE OF ABERCORN. In this regard, he explained that his instructions were not to lead in this race if another horse committed for the lead. Consequently, when SHESH BESH (K. Ramasamy) showed an intent to lead, he attempted to obtain cover from this gelding which accounted for him easing his mount as illustrated on the patrol films of the race. Trainer Y. Perdrau appeared before the Board and confirmed the statements of Apprentice M. Sonaram in so far as they related to him. The Board, however, questioned Trainer Y. Perdrau on his tactics in this race. In this regard, he was questioned regarding why he had not intended to fully commit for the lead. He explained that he had anticipated that there would be more speed pressure in the race. Therefore, he was reluctant to over commit too early on DUKE OF ABERCORN. The Board noted the explanations of both Trainer Y. Perdrau and Apprentice M. Sonaram. However, in so far as Apprentice M. Sonaram was concerned, an inquiry has been opened into his riding in this race.
